Tanabata Festival
Tanabata Festival in Japan
July 7th is called tanabata in Japan. It's a Japanese tradition wherein people write their wishes on tanzaku papers (colorful, small strips of papers) and hang them on bamboo branches. People also hang many kinds of paper decorations on bamboo branches and place them outside their houses. Many cities and towns hold tanabata festivals and have tanabata displays, decorating the main streets. In some regions, people light lanterns and float them on the river, or float bamboo leaves on the river.
History
Tanabata originated more than 2,000 years ago with an old Chinese tale called Kikkoden. Once there was a weaver princess named Orihime and a cow herder prince named Hikoboshi living in space. After they got together, they were playing all the time and forgot their jobs. The king was angry at them and separated them on opposite sides of the Amanogawa River (Milky Way). The king allowed them to meet only once a year on July 7th. This is why tanabata is also called the Star Festival. People say that Orihime and Hikoboshi can't meet each other if July 7th is rainy, so they pray for good weather and also make wishes for themselves.

UK to host key gymnastics event
Birmingham has won the right to stage a major international gymnastics event ahead of the 2012 London Olympics.
The National Indoor Arena will host the 2011 World Championships in Trampoline, Tumbling and Double-Mini Trampoline.
The competition is crucial for the trampolinists as it also serves as their qualifying tournament for the 2012 Games less than a year later.
The event will be held over three days and is expected to involve around 650 athletes from 40 countries.
British Gymnastics chief executive Alan Sommerville said: "This event will provide our team with a fantastic opportunity to experience the excitement and pressure associated with competing in a major event on home soil."
British Gymnastics and Birmingham City Council have formed a successful partnership in recent years by jointly staging the World Cup Finals in Artistic Gymnastics in 2004 and in Trampoline and Tumbling in 2006.

SUMMARY
In the dismantling of stone chamber conducted in Takamatsuzuka tomb in Asukamura, Nara Prefecture to restore and to preserve a national treasure mural, the western wall where groups of women named "Asukabijin" was drawn on was removed on May 10.
Groups of women was a vivid figure when it was discovered in 1972, but it gradually deteriorated and mold opened to the top of its face. The Cultural Affairs Agency hurried its rescue.
Its rescue succeeded safely. It is going to be restored after ten years.
COMMENT
I had worried whether "Asukabijin" would be rescued safely because it was important cultural treasure.
So I felt relief that it was removed safely.
Its mold widely opened.
I hope that its mold was completely removed.
